Little Red Riding Hood Literature Focus unit

Next year I plan on teaching fairy tales.  I used to teach them and they were always a hit with my Kindergarten class.  So next year I am going to make sure I'm able to squeeze them in somehow.  I have been working on Literature focus units to accompany the fairy tale materials I already had.  These units are "the missing pieces" in what I was looking for to help my students better understand story structure and text complexity.  For more information please go to my TpT store to download a preview.

This 99 page unit includes character response sheets in three different skin tones and B&W.

This unit includes:
Critical Thinking Questions
Vocabulary Cards

Technology Toolbox: Endless "How-To" Ideas For Writing

I don't know about you but I don't have very many "how-to" books that are appropriate for my kindergarteners.  I LOVE apps and I am always looking for ones that make my life a little easier.  Well I had been using an app called Snapguide for over a year when it hit me...I could use this app as an aide when I'm teaching the how-to unit of writing (duh).

It's FREE to download and full of picture based how-to guides.  I will never have to stress out about thinking up an example topic again! Oh. Yeah.

It is full of ready made ideas from how-to braid your hair to how-to make a sock puppet and everything in between.  I will definitely be utilizing this app better than I did before (which was for personal use only) and find ways to incorporate it into my lessons.

Since you have to become a member anyways why not have your class make their own snapguide?  I certainly plan to do just that this school year.  Plus it is something that you could leave on the site forever reminding your students parents of just how cool techy and smart you are :-)  Let me know what you think and if you plan to use this app for the upcoming academic year.  Leave a comment below, google+, or on my facebook page. I (heart) pins!
